Amitriptyline for Migraine prevention

Are any other Migraine sufferers taking Amitriptyline for migraine prevention? I’m currently taking 50mg and I’m getting less severe migraines - I think but should I be getting any migraines on this if it’s a preventative? I’d love to hear other people stories on this and what Amitriptyline dosage worked.

  1. Hi, even with my preventative Emgality, I still get migraines but it has reduced severity and duration. Most months it prevents the headache that used to wake me from sleep. Hang in there

  2. Several years ago a Dr. put me on amitriptyline, and I quit after 3 months because I still got migraines.
I now have a different Dr and a new outlook on things. I have taken it for about 2 years now, but he has combined it with other things and changed dosage levels.
YES I still get migraines, but less often and shorter. We are all different, so nothing fixes everyone.
In my opinion learning about yourself and your own triggers is as important as the medication you take, and this site can help with that.
