Daily persistent headache making my life hell

Hello there. I am new to this. So please bear with me.
I have had a persistent headache now for 6 months. Have tried multiple medications but nothing helps. I have been diagnosed as having a new daily persistent headache or a chronic migraine.
Please tell me I am not alone in this 😞

  1. You are absolutely not alone in this, . My heart goes out to you! I hope that some of our community members here can share with you here, their experiences and tips and reassurance. In the meantime I wanted to share this "letter to the newly diagnosed" that one of our health leaders put together, https://migraine.com/living-migraine/letter-to-newly-diagnosed. Please don't hesitate to reach out here anytime, whether you have questions, need to vent, or could use some support. Sending you gentle hugs! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    1. hi Christine, thanks for your reply!
This has just taken over my life in so many ways. It’s so tough. I’ve just literally woken from such a bad nights sleep. My temple areas are not so bad today but behind my eye socket on one side is throbbing.
It’s so hard trying to work out what will help!
May I ask if you have similar symptoms or indeed can recommended anything that could help? 😞
So far I’ve tried Accupuncture, physiotherapy, propranolol medicine, supplements! Nothing has helped.
My friend suggested Botox to try and help ease the pain. 😞

    2. Hi , unfortunately I, personally, do not have much for tips or tricks. While I have had a handful of migraines, they have occurred over the course of the past couple of years. My experience with migraine is tiny compared to the community members here. (Although I can say that I have had one so bad it woke me up from sleep as well.)

It can feel so frustrating and discouraging to have tried multiple things with no relief. I wish that something was helping you more quickly and consistently. We do have some community members who have found Botox helpful, although it's important to note that what works for one person won't necessarily work for another. I also wanted to share a link to this article on treatments, https://migraine.com/migraine-treatment. It is a brief overview of the types of treatments, but if you click on the blue links within the article it will take you to an article that goes into more depth about each treatment. Perhaps there's something there that you would be interested in exploring further.

Also, some of our community members have found using a migraine tracking app helpful in navigating symptoms and identifying triggers. One member uses the app Migraine Buddy and wrote about her experience here, https://migraine.com/stories/migraine-buddy-app-review.

I really do hope that you can find something that helps you get some relief! Are you working with a doctor as well? Wishing you a gentle day. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

  2. Hi. So sorry you're struggling like this! It's especially hard when you can't even pin down what you're dealing with (new daily persistent headache or migraine).

I imagine your doctor has asked you plenty of questions, but just so we understand a little better, are you also having other symptoms of migraine besides head pain? There are so many different headache disorders, all of them obnoxious in their own unique ways.

NDPH has a weird characteristic that most people can recall the exact day that it all began, even years later.

has both migraine and NDPH. He's written quite a few articles about his experiences, here's one that might be relevant:

Maybe he'll see this post and get in touch if he gets a chance. We'll see.

Regardless, I wish you well as you work to figure this out. We're here for you! -Melissa, team member

    1. Hey. Thanks so much for the reply.
So I can remember the exact day I started to get headache - November 6th 2024. It came after I didn’t feel so good for like 7 days or so. Maybe a viral or some other type of flu like illness. I felt drained and run down for days beforehand. The only other symptoms I have it times besides the temple area pain is sinus pain. Or atleast what feels like sinus pain. That’s my best way to explain it. The feeling like when your nose is blocked and the frontal lobe of your face feels like it’s stuffy or throbbing. I also have minor tinnitus in one ear most of the time.
I do believe I am learning to manage this. But my gosh this has been a real game changer for me and really made me look at how I live my life 😞

      1. I’m so sorry you are living with this. I am here to tell you you are not alone! I have lived with NDPH and migraine (episodic and now chronic) for well over ten years. I’m active in the community here and would be happy to stay in touch if you ever want personalized support to guide you along until you’re at a manageable point with these conditions. Wishing you migraine-free days, Tom Picerno
