Does Anyone Else Get Muscle Cramps? Leg Cramps?

For me, leg cramps started about ten years ago. Long story short, I had been on a trial of Cymbalta for 90 days back when it was thought Cymbalta could help with chronic pain. It did nothing for me but make it almost impossible to stop taking the medication. I went into Cymbalta Withdrawal Syndrome, took 18 months to stop taking the medication and involved crippling leg cramps.

Now, when I get a certain kind of migraine, usually weather triggered, I get the same crippling leg cramps. Heating pads help with the pain during the day and ice packs at night but that's when I'm sitting still keeping them on my legs. Walking is extremely difficult. In fact, today I'm using a walker my left leg is so painful.

Muscle relaxants work only because they knock me out. You feel very little pain when you're sleeping 16+ hours a day. I'm wondering if other people have muscle cramp problems and what they've done to try and help them.

  1. That's such a hard thing to go through, . I'm sorry you're dealing with side effects that have lingered for this long. I did a quick search of the archives and most of the responses I found had to do with head cramps, not legs, and not related to Cymbalta.

Just to make sure you've covered all your bases, have you had bloodwork done, including your electrolyte levels? Medications like Cymbalta can impact sodium, which could cause cramps.

You could also consider evaluation by a neurologist to check for nerve damage, and/or a vascular doctor to look at your veins and blood flow.

I'm sorry I don't have anything specific to offer. I hope you and your doctors can figure this out. Keep us posted! -Melissa, team member
