My First Migraine Attack Lasted 5 Months

My first migraine attack lasted a full 5 months. My PCP stopped Divalproex, which I was on to prevent migraines because I was "wobbly." It was my psychiatrist who started it because she suffered from migraines. Divalproex was discontinued at the beginning of January 2013, and I was put back on it at the end of January 2013. But it no longer provided any relief. I taped a black hand towel over the window of the front door, and we got all light-darkening curtains. The attack lasted until I was finally able to get Botox right before July 4th, 2013. It usually takes several cycles, but I was lucky I got relief immediately. But I'm now on other preventive oral medications and oral abortive medications for when I get a severe headache. 1-2 times per year, I get a full-blown migraine attack, which usually requires a Medrol 6-day pack to break the attack.
